Van Gone-dy

The winner of this year's coach of the year award in the NBA was Mike Brown. Brown has been heralded throughout the playoffs by all for involving his assistants to the point of them taking practices and the huddle over. Brown also said he runs his game plans by his star player Lebron James for approval. What a great coach. Despite the lack of a real coach the Cavs were still the Eastern Conference's best team. Which goes to show that players, such as the dynamic Lebron James, win games. That being said coaches can still cost their team games and that is exactly what Stan Van Gundy did last night against the Boston Celtics in a critical game 5.

Van Gundy decided to ignore the lone dominate player on his roster as his Orlando Magic blew yet another double digit lead to fall behind 3-2 in their best of 7 series. Players like Hedo Turkoglu and Rashard Lewis were instead called upon to dribble the clock out (since they have no point guard) and then proceed to take a horrible 3. Isn't it common sense that when you have a big man the other team can not guard, you get him the ball in the post late in games and have your other players spot up for the shots he creates? Has Shaq not won 4 rings over the course of his career? Come on coach. You lost the game for your team and possibly the series.

There is a reason Pat Reilly took over for the Miami Heat in 2006. He knew the team would not meet its championship aspirations with Stan Van Gundy at the helm. While this Orlando team can remain a force within the East for years to come, if they want to win a championship last night was a perfect example of why Van Gundy must go. Under the pressure of the big lights he has become a whiner constantly complaining about his team, who wilts when the game is on the line.

WWWHHHAATT!!!!!! Do you mean the man that Shaq referred to as the "Master of Panic", panicked at the end of last night's game? I'm shocked. SHOCKED!!! I thought it was good to have your team chuck 3s at the end of games, allowing the team back in it, as well as alienating you're best player in the process. I guess last night proved that's an "ineffective strategy".

Furthermore, he is also a shit coach for being such players minded guy. stan Van Gundy never steps forward with authority to get on his team when they are playing shitty, or taking plays off, or straying from the gameplan. But he's so quick to applaud them for when they actually do their job.

I have seen it throughout these playoffs during huddles and post game press conferences when the magic play well....he praises Turkolu for making a big shot against Philly, but doesn't take the ball out of his hands when he makes unacceptable turnovers against the celtics.....he annoints Howard as the best defensive big man in the game when he blocks a 8 shots against philly, but doesn't get in his ear about letting kendrick perkins grab o-boards and not closing out on Big Baby while he shoots wide open mid range jumpers.

Great coaches in the NBA are tough on their great players....though he doesnt do it with Kobe,..Phil used to yell at MJ and Scottie when the defense lacked....Popovich yells at Duncan and Parker...coaches like Riley, Wilkens, and Larry Brown yell at EVERYBODY....

there is no room in the NBA for a players coach, unless ur Mike Brown and you don need a game plan because Lebron is that good....but if VanGundy's brother were coaching the Magic, they'd be going for a series closing Game 6 win tonight, instead of a desperation TNT win or go home....Sucks because the magic play the cavs really well.
